Title Insurance

Graduate Hospital was a hospital founded in 1916 southwest of the City Center of Philadelphia. The streets surrounding the medical center came to be thought of as a district, and the neighborhood came to be known by the same name. It is a coveted section of real estate because of its location so close to the downtown area of Philadelphia. Luxury Graduate Hospital homes are available here in this small but vital district.

There are a number of medical institutions located close by. A medical facility was first sited at the current location of Graduate Hospital in 1889. Back then it was called Philadelphia Polyclinic.

Graduate Hospital underwent a major reorganization in 2007. It reformed into a rehabilitation center and long term acute care complex that is now called Penn Medicine at Rittenhouse. The institution is operated by the University of Pennsylvania Health System. It works in conjunction with the Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network.

Long History of Health Care

The hospital traces its history back to 1889 with the founding of Philadelphia Polyclinic. The area around South St and 20th became home to the Graduate School of Medicine in 1918. At the time, Graduate Hospital was a clinical teaching facility. Plagued by money troubles, it became an independent non profit hospital in 1977. It became part of the Allegheny Health System headquartered in Pittsburgh in 1996. Allegheny went bankrupt in 1998, and Tenet Healthcare took it over. Tenet also ran into financial trouble in 2005 and sought to sell Graduate Hospital the following year. The present day management closed it as a full service hospital and reorganized it as a specialty medical facility.

At present, Graduate Hospital has a 38 bed acute, long term care facility. It also houses a 58 bed rehabilitation facility.
