Coheed And Cambria

Coheed and Cambria released new songs for Rock Band downloads.

“Coheed and Cambria are one of those bands that surprised me with the amount of support they got within the Rock Band community when we first launched. Not that they don’t deserve it (quite the contrary, in fact), but in the realm of popular music, I would not have expected a prog rock/post hardcore band with high pitched vocals and a strong sci fi space opera storyline to become one of the most requested band on the forums.

The four Coheed and Cambria tracks we currently have in the Rock Band Music Library (“A Favor House Atlantic,” “Ten Speed (of God’s Blood and Burial),” “Welcome Home,” and “The Running Free”) are among the most played songs at live Rock Band events, and the band’s dedicated request thread is, far and away, one of the largest on the forums.

So it shouldn’t come as any shock that we’re releasing more songs from Co&Ca, this time in their first official pack! I love the more pop elements (the hand claps and sing-a-longs) on Second Stage Turbine Blade, and the sweeping guitars and the sprawling immensity of In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 still hook me, but this three pack, from their recently released album, Year of the Black Rainbow, is some of the heaviest stuff I’ve heard these guys put out.

From the frantic drum opening of “Guns of Summer” to the thick baselines of “Here We Are Juggernaut” to the scrambling guitars and Iron Maidenesque whoa-oh-ohs of “The Broken,” these songs have a weight and building urgency that shows in every instrument. That’s a huge part of what made the past Co&Ca releases so popular – the fact that they were challenging and compelling on all instruments, and these new tracks are no exception.

Claudio, frontman for Coheed and Cambria, was good enough to sit down for an interview with us on a recent tour, and we talked about exploring the Rock Band Network as an option to get more of the band’s content in the game and how he’s played his own songs at Rock Band parties. Claudio was an unbelievably friendly guy, and you should definitely check out the interview.

So there you have it. Finally, a pack for one of the most requested bands on the forums, one of the most popular selections at regular Rock Band nights with some of the most enjoyable note charts to play, and one of the nicest bands I’ve had the pleasure to interview. In hindsight, I guess it’s no surprise at all that Coheed and Cambria are so popular in the world of Rock Band.

Rounding out next week’s Rock Band Music Store additions are three pop singles. British rockers Siouxsie & The Banshees are upping their Rock Band presence with “Peek-a-Boo” from the band’s ninth studio album, Peepshow. Britpop outfit Supergrass is adding “Sun Hits the Sky,” the third single from the band’s second studio album, In It For the Money, and American alternative rockers The Violent Femmes make their Rock Band debut with “American Music” from the band’s fifth studio album, Why Do Birds Sing?

These tracks will be available for purchase as “Coheed and Cambria Pack 01,” for $5.49, as well as individual tracks on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 system for $1.99, and as individual tracks only on Wii for $2.”
