Tweeter/Midrange Coaxial Array
The CS2.3's most innovative design feature is a newly developed coaxial
tweeter/midrange driver where the two drivers' diaphragms share the same
voice coil. This technique allows the elimination of the midrange/tweeter
section of the electrical crossover network as the drivers' structure provides
a mechanical crossover. The coaxial mounting results in perfect time
coherence regardless of listener position, greatly improving imaging and
transient fidelity. The CS2.3 uses a 1-inch aluminum dome tweeter and a
3.5-inch aluminum diaphragm midrange. A very low distortion short coil/long
gap motor system greatly increases opneness and clarity. |

Woofer
The 8-inch, long excursion woofer uses an aluminum diaphragm for broad,
resonance-free operation, and a very low distortion short coil/long gap,
copper-stabilized motor system for greater clarity. In combination with
the 9-inch bass radiator, which eliminates bass port resonances and noise,
the CS2.3 delivers high bass output and dynamics down to 35Hz.Very rigid
cast aluminum chassis also improve clarity. |

Crossover Network
THIEL's first-order electrical networks insure complete phase accuracy for
natural, three-dimensional imaging. Some of the network's circuitry is also
used to correct frequency response irregularities improving the speaker's
overall frequency response. Very high quality components such as polystyrene
and polypropylene capacitors, and air core inductors wound with high purity,
low oxygen copper are used for low distortion and transparent reproduction.
The networks are hand assembled with silver solder connections and individually
tested before installation. |
